What We Are Doing

A few things Clean Fairfax has been up to recently

Making Holidays More Sustainable

The holidays are often a hectic time of year. They are also a very wasteful time of year: Americans generate about 25% more waste between Thanksgiving and the New Year. However, it doesn’t have to be this way! Whether you are looking for ways to reduce waste in your gift giving, decorating, or entertaining, check out our tips for making your holidays more sustainable, thoughtful, and local.

Plastic Free July 2024

Plastic Free July 2024: Join the Challenge!

This year, Clean Fairfax is promoting Plastic Free July at the Farmers Markets. Our theme is “Small Steps, Big Differences.” We will be at three Fairfax County Park Authority Farmers Markets throughout the month of July: Annandale (Thursday mornings), Kingstowne (Friday afternoons), and Lorton (Sunday mornings). Stop by our tent to learn more about how you can refuse single use plastic bags and start a habit of bringing your own reusable bags. We’re running a fun giveaway program where you can earn prizes by using reusables. See you there!

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle?

Join Clean Fairfax, Environment Virginia, Lynnhaven River Now!, and Clean Virginia Waterways for an informative three-part webinar series on ending the epidemic of plastic pollution in Virginia and beyond!

Hear from subject-matter experts on all things plastic pollution: including cleanup and collection technologies, recycling realities, the false solutions to plastic pollution, and more!

In 2020 and 2021, Clean Fairfax worked with DPWES-Solid Waste to lead the Fairfax County Litter Task Force. The findings of that Task Force was presented to the Environmental Committee of the Board of Supervisors in December, 2021.

Since that time, we have been able to add some more data to the Task Force recommendations and this is an adapted presentation of that body of work.
